Proofreading and correction

Careful proofreading and correction is an important part of the production process for both print and electronic products. Everything we work on receives at least two rounds of proofreading and correction, one on our side and one on yours, since this is the minimum necessary to ensure quality.

For products destined for conventional printing, if time allows we print out proofs and read them in hard copy, since that’s the best way of spotting errors. Proofs can then be marked up (using the post-it-note facility in Adobe Acrobat) and exchanged by email or, in the case of heavy files, via our ftp site or Dropbox account.

Proofreading for websites, where changes can continue to be made once the ‘final’ product has gone live, is usually done on-screen, with changes being noted to the designer in a separate email or Word file. Other electronic products, such as CDs and e-newsletters, may need particularly careful on-screen proofreading before dissemination.
