Communications Support – Climate

Requirement

To support the development of a new briefing series about climate innovation.

Client

Climate-KIC is Europe’s largest public–private innovation partnership focused on climate change. It consists of dynamic companies, the best academic institutions and the public sector. It is one of three Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) created in 2010 by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, an EU body whose mission is to create sustainable growth.

Climate-KIC supports this mission by addressing climate change mitigation and adaptation, through the integration of education, entrepreneurship and innovation. This results in the connected, creative transformation of knowledge and ideas into economically viable products and services that help to mitigate climate change.

Project

Climate-KIC InsightClimate-KIC UK and Ireland approached Green Ink for help with a new communications product they were planning: Climate Innovation Insights, a series of briefings written by sectoral experts about how we can transition to a net zero-carbon economy.

Our first task was to create a compelling design for this series, one that matched Climate-KIC’s branding while attracting maximum attention. At the same time, we helped Climate-KIC’s experts to shape their drafts, to ensure that the key take-away messages stood out and the language was accessible to those outside of the sector.

Series 1, launched in 2016, focused on Climate Innovation Clusters – cities or regions that have competitive advantages in the new climate economy – and how these can become engines of local economic growth, while increasing the rate of change towards a climate-resilient society.

Climate-KIC Insights websiteTo ensure a high uptake of these, our digital and design specialist created a webpage for the series, where people can read the key messages and download a PDF of each briefing. The webpage is fully responsive, meaning that the information presented adapts to the size and shape of the viewing window – an increasingly important feature for web-based content. We also organized the printing and delivery of hard copies of each briefing.

Building on the success of these, in 2017 we worked with Climate-KIC Germany to publish a second series, this time looking at Sustainable Production Systems – everything from Conscious Food to Closing Material Loops.
